The Baby Blues

The Baby Blues

Mainly due to a resurgence of the grunge/punk trend in the fashion world, quirky pops of colour prominently featured in make-up looks created for the Spring/Summer 2013 collections showcased across the globe.  Various takes on colour were seen at shows in Paris, Milan and New York, with a particular exuberant blue making an appearance – “Le couleur-du-jour’.

Forget all you have been told about matching shadow to your eye colour, the blue-eye make-up trend seen at several runway shows, including Chanel, Stella McCartney, Jenny Packham and Moschino, is a fun way to change your make-up  look whilst staying on-trend, no matter your eye colour.

Make-up trendsetter, Pat McGrath, matched dewy summery skin with shocks of greeny/blue aqua along the eye water line at the Paris Stella McCartney show. This is the perfect way to experiment with a bit of colour and whimsy. Using a long lasting pencil is a must in this area of the eye. My favourites are MAC Pro Longwear pencil in Mountain Air & By Terry Crayon Khol Terrbly Colour eye pencil in Blue vision.

Peter Philips’ blue-black look at the Chanel Cruise show featured flicks of bold black liner on the top lid, complimented by an intense marine blue close to and on the lower lash line. Philips complemented this look with creamy skin and side swept fringes. As with most fashion trends, this look can be modified to suit your level of daring! Philips used Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-lasting Eyeliner in True Blue by Chanel.

At Jenny Packham’s ‘Chic yet Playful’ collection, grunge was out.  Talia Shobrook, the lead make-up artist for the Laura Mercier team, instead created a feminine and flirty eye using Laura Mercier eye pencil in Midnight Blue to extend the line past the lashes for a timeless 60’s feel.
